The Medical / Surgical Unit has a new addition of 15 private rooms and other rooms are being remodeled to provide a total of 41 private rooms when the project is complete.
Monroe County Medical Center's nursing department consists of one 49-bed acute care Medical/Surgical Unit. Patients who require a shorter length of stay for evaluation or testing purposes are also placed on the Med/Surg Unit in an observation status. Cardiac telemetry is also available with capability of monitoring up to 16 patients in any of the 49 beds. We care for patients of all ages and a variety of acute and chronic illnesses and conditions.
The Med/Surg. Unit is staffed with Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Nursing Assistants, and Unit Clerks who work 12-hour shifts to meet the needs of the patients. All patients are assessed by Registered Nurses upon arrival to the unit. The nursing staff also works in a close relationship with many other departments such as Pharmacy, Cardiopulmonary, Radiology, Rehab Services, and Nutrition Services to coordinate the plan of care for the patient.
