Monroe County Medical Center's nursing department consists of one 49-bed acute care Medical/Surgical Unit. Patients who require a shorter length of stay for evaluation or testing purposes are also placed on the Med/Surg. Unit in an observation status. The Med/Surg. Unit consists of 15 private rooms including one isolation room, and 17 semi-private rooms. Cardiac telemetry monitoring is also available with capability of monitoring up to 16 patients in any of the 49 beds.
 

The Med/Surg. Unit is staffed with Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Nursing Assistants, and Unit Clerks 24 hours per day to meet the needs of the patients.  Patients are assessed by Registered Nurses upon arrival to the unit. The staff of the Med/Surg. Unit also works in a close relationship with many other departments such as Pharmacy, Cardiopulmonary, Radiology, Rehab Services to coordinate the plan of care for the patient.
